maiki scratches

Someone remind me of the time i couldnt find my trousers.

Its a humorous anecdote, as well as a life lesson.

Okay, maybe its just a life lesson.

Standards are healthier than a monolithic toolset.

Yotsuba& #104 just had me crying. I was alone reading it, but Clover has read ahead and knew it was coming… life is funny like that.

Speculative nonfiction.

Ecosystems are dynamic entities—they are subject to periodic disturbances and are always in the process of recovering from some past disturbance.

Something clicked in my head the other day, the reason I can be paid to run a server, but won’t do so for free: it’s presence of mind.

I of course run servers for myself, because they are my tools. But when I tried to offer free hosting for a variety of servers, its take energy that I haven’t always been conscious of. It was a feeling, but now I see it for what it is, and realize all servers have an expense.

The talkgroup platform is great because I can use it for what I need, at very little expense, while benefiting many other people. This is my preferred approach to network services. Well, that and decentralizing network services, that would be preferable of course!

Muggle: someone’s whose subconscious hasn’t developed to the point of driving oneself to mental distraction.

Quite the journey to get there, but today I stumbled onto one of my favorite terms and articles:

So many thoughts!

I’m not sure I can confirm which is true: I didn’t dig deep enough in the past, or the net has definitely gotten weirder…

I suppose both could be true.

ā€œSlow downā€ is often an option.

I don’t know what that message means without clicking on it, so I believe it has failed for it’s purpose; Firefox should not confuse (lacking in information) or coerce (implying time sensitivity) users.

Turns out I can listen to ocean waves, it relaxes me. So much of my noise mitigation routines are just that, mitigating noise.

Relaxes the Terrible.

A certain point of view:

Dear people in the future, it’s maiki here. maiki, from the past? Yeah, anyhow, here’s some ancient wisdom for you: we wipe our butts with paper. Toilet paper. It’s a a whole thing.

And despite our shared activity, there is actually very little guidance on how to approach the procurement of toilet paper. Every group has their own traditions, and in our family our approach…

… is known in local vernacular as ā€œlike a bossā€.

No one let Clover know, but… they’re catching up to me a lot faster than I thought. In, like, everything.

An interesting thought exercise: have a rough understanding of what reality was like for the preceding seven generations before you. Imagine: to actually know your family history! Conclusion: we are basically operating from snapshots of cultural reference…

I bet Sherlock Holmes is excellent at driving and absolutely refuses to do so.
