Is there a manual for clearing out an “ol’ boys’ club?” Or is the goal to deconstruct the orgs and redistribute their assets to new orgs?

Stop war, free housing.

Today I task context none’d and saw such an interesting snapshot of my interest, I decided to share:

We tell kids for the first twenty years or so of their life, “don’t worry, you’ll know more as you get older…”

And they go on believing it for 60 - 80 years!

“Standards” are system configurations shared with others.

Candidate for life motto.

Today I came up with a convoluted multi-currency points system to obtain new Switch games for Clover, involving earning “emblems” from beating NES games in the Nintendo Online NES Games collection.

Clover has chosen… Legend of Zelda!

I say “tabletalk roleplaying game”, or ttrpg. “Tabletalk” because tables are the original platforms, and I pay homage. Also, the talking is what I look for, everything else provides support for the talking.

I’ve finally got all the components in place:

  • reliable computer
  • daily log habit
  • camera devices synced to computer

Now I can do more visual media sharing in my daily life.

We were fortunate to find a stack of Cricket magazines from the late 80s. We all enjoy reading them, and we often read a story or two at bedtime.

Interacting with the magazines as artifacts made me realize how much I love art design and layout in printed materials… but there was something I couldn’t quite place, something really special about Cricket specifically… and then it clicked!

No advertisements.

It’s a magazine for children, and it has no advertisements! And I thought, gee whiz, that’s what I always wanted to do, work for a creative endeavor that didn’t advertise as a revenue stream.

And then I thought… wait, are there websites for children? I’ve never even thought to present myself as someone that specializes in websites designed for use by children! It completely aligns with my values!

Huh… are there websites designed for use by children?

Current computing states: private, personal, public.

Magic: The Gathering is Hasbro’s CCG platform, where popular franchises produce card game products without having to develop their own. Wizards of the Coast remains a strong content organizer, given their special “in-house” status.

Whoa, this is a new one for me, Firefox compositing two windows atop each other (during my research for California Earthquake and other Emergency Supply Kit):

I wish!

It is entirely possible for immature people to follow an immature leader and not know it. Scales, as well.

I make mistakes all day, but they are conceptual mistakes, and in my head or a computer. I try things out and fail and try a different thing so often I’m exhausted at the end of the day.

When I read at night, sometimes I zone out, or have never said aloud a particular word (Clover has me read really old books…), and I say something incorrectly. Clover, who has a fantastic vocabulary, as well as having the benefit of listening to the audiobooks, will correct me instantaneously.

I’ve been so irritated with that. I’m tired, I’ve read all day already, and the last thing I want is someone interrupting me…

But thinking about a growth mindset, and what it means to instill that, means I need to, hmmm, “show my work”. As in, I need to reevaluate the irritation, and see what can be done before it.

So here’s the alternative I’m trying:

  1. Showing appreciation and gratefulness for the correction
  2. Reminding we need to offer corrections in a polite way

The first point is a repeating opportunity to show Clover I an receptive, as well as capable of making mistakes and learning from them.

As for the second point, my hope is that with time and recurrences of seeing me accept the wisdom of my mistakes, it will feel less urgent to interject a correction, a slow defusing of the energy that builds when one is ever so correct.

Basically, I plan to become grateful and boring, and hopefully learning lots of new spoken vocabulary.
